Amelia Earhart

by Hailey from Horicon

Did you know that Amelia Earhart was the first female pilot to cross the Atlantic Ocean in 1928? She was brave to go over the Atlantic Ocean, since she was the first female pilot. She had leadership for the women to start flying planes. Her first flight was in 1920. The trip going over the Atlantic Ocean and flying into France was big responsibility because she flew a long distance; she was the first female to do this (everyone was counting on her), and she had to find out how to fly the plane. She was adventurous because when she visited her grandparent’s home, Amelia and her sister Grace made up adventures, climbed trees, and explored the neighborhoods. She excelled in science (biology, chemistry) and the moved and enrolled into medical science in college. Amelia was a hero because of her disappearance.

My hero is the first women to fly across the Atlantic Ocean, Amelia Earhart. Amelia lived in Atchison, Kansas. Earhart was born on July 24, 1897 and went missing in July 2, 1937. She was legally declared dead on January 5, 1939. people say she went missing because she was over the central Pacific Ocean and they couldn’t find her or a signal from the plane, the Electra 10E. Some theories people have of the missing appearance were; crashing and sinking, Tokyo Rose rumor, Spies for FDR, etc. This hero made a difference in our world by believing if we can accomplish any goals and opportunities, then all we have to do is make our moments last in the life we are given. She also showed that women can do the same things as men and that gender shouldn’t matter.

Amelia Earhart was the first person to fly across the Atlantic in 1928, the second person to fly across the Atlantic solo in 1932, and the first person to fly across Hawaii to California in 1935. When Earhart went missing, the United States spent $4 million to attempt to find her on her world flight across the equator.

My definition of a hero explains that a hero is a person who has heroic qualities or has performed a heroic act. Amelia Earhart fits this category because she is well-known for being the first women to fly the Atlantic Ocean. By today, they still don’t know what happened to her. The more people talk about her, the more people will know about her. Today Amelia Earhart would still be a hero because of her heroic traits (brave, responsible, strong, etc).

In conclusion, Amelia Earhart is a hero for her qualities and heroic traits because she is well-known for being the first woman to fly the Atlantic Ocean and fly it solo a couple years later. Amelia made a difference in this world because she made us believe that we can do anything that a guy can do and that we should live our happy and livable moments because you don’t live forever. I believe she started to be adventurous when she was little because Grace and her went and made adventures around the neighborhood, so I believe being adventurous when she was a little kid through teen years, made her unstoppable in exploring the whole world.
