Amelia Earhart

Amelia Earhart is my hero because she was the woman that did what no other woman had done before. She started a trend. Amelia was born on July 24, 1897 in Atchison, Kansas. She disappeared July 2, 1937. She was only 40 years old. Her plane went down over the Pacific Ocean on her way to Holland. Her body or any wreckage of the plane was never found.

Amelia grew up in a pretty wealthy family with two parents named Amy and Edwin and a younger sister named Muriel. She was very doubtful of Amelia’s dreams. As they got older they started to get along more. Her childhood was still not that pleasant because her father was an alcoholic.

During World War I Amelia was a volunteer nurse in the war. To me that is a real hero. Someone who does something kind without asking for a reward. When the war was over she enrolled in a medical school at the University of Columbia. After that she moved back to California

Amelia found a flying teacher. Her name was Anita Snook. She took many flight lessons with her. Amelia bought her first plane in October 1922. She named it the Canary.

Amelia Earhart is a hero because she did something in a time where women were usually only stay-at-home moms, nurses, or teachers. She blocked out the negativity and did what she wanted to do. Amelia Earhart was never a famous actor, singer or athlete - just a woman with a dream and a big heart of generosity!!!!!
