Wonder Drug

"With the experienced eye of a scientist, Alexander Fleming turned what appeared to be a spoiled experiment into the discovery of the first of the "wonder drugs," penicillin"("Alexander Fleming"). He discovered  the "wonder drug" penicillin that saved millions of people's lives and affected everyone, even today. Fleming discovered penicillin in 1928 but it was only known by him and his colleagues until 1940 when it finally became worldwide. Not only that, but he contributed with so many other factors that helped many people even today. Alexander Fleming is a hero because of his incredible contributions to science and his work towards saving millions of lives.

Alexander Fleming is a hero because he made incredible contributions that pushed science even further. Even before he was well known and before he discovered penicillin, "Fleming had discovered that human tears have an antibacterial effect, produced by a substance called lysozyme" (Bakalar). This discovery from Fleming pushed science even one step further into discovering more about the human body. Now we know our tears can be used  for our beneficial. It can be used to help people instead of just going to waste. With just the discovery of penicillin he was able to use it in many different ways,"He even used it with success for the local treatment of human eye infections"("History"). With his best discovery penicillin, he found out he could use it in many different ways. It could help in so many different infections from any part of the boy. If people got a eye infection there wasn't much to do but after penicillin they had better chances of getting it cured. When he is needed he is always there to help, "He was posted to a hospital in Boulogne, where he became a leading expert on infected wounds" ("Scots Hero"). Not only was he one of the best scientist that helped millions of people but he even answered the call when he was needed in a hospital and became a leading expert that saved many people. He wasn't just a scientist. He was a hero for everyone. Alexander Fleming was always ready to help when needed and always there to get mankind even further with more knowledge and more discoveries.

Alexander Fleming is a hero for his work towards saving millions of lives. He even changed the lives of the soldiers, "Penicillin reduced the death rate among soldiers to one-third of what it had been in the Great War" ( "Scots hero " ). He saved so many soldiers. Those soldiers were able to come back to their loved ones all thanks to Alexander Fleming. He changed the lives of the whole world. Fleming was even able to change the death ratio of infections by a lot, "bacterial infection is now a less frequent cause of death than suicide or traffics accidents"   ("History").  Thanks to him the risk of dying because of bacteria has significantly decreased over the years. When someone got sick back then it was way more common for them to die, but these days there is way more medicine that can help you. People didn't know that much about treating correctly on the wounded,"They worked on the bacteriology and treatment of septic wounds, showing the importance of Streptococcus pyogenes in wound infection and blood poisoning" (Worboys).  Back then they treated wounds incorrectly, which led to many people dying. Fleming stepped forward and completely changed their method of thinking because it was not working. He made his own method of taking care of wounds that saved many lives that would have probably died by blood poisoning with the old method. Alexander Fleming is a hero for changing and saving the lives of millions.

Alexander Fleming was a famous scientist who made great discoveries and contributions that changed the world that we know of today. He is a selfless hero who helped millions of people and made great discoveries. Fleming lowered the death ratio for infections, discovered human tears had lysosome, figured out the treatment of wounds was incorrect and many other great changes. Fleming is an inspiration because a single human being was able to make such a big impact in the world, it means anyone can do it. He had his hard times but never gave up and it all paid off at the end because he became a hero. Fleming inspires me because he didn't give up even after he got denied. He waited several years to get his attention. It took a while but he got his attention at the end, and solved many world problems by never giving up. Alexander Fleming is one of the best human beings that has ever lived on this planet. He was a selfless scientist who changed the world forever and will always be remember as a true hero. Let's hope that there are many more heroes to come just like this one.
