Anne Frank by Melanie Arzave
A hero does well for his or her community; a hero is a person who stands up for what they believe in. Anne Frank was not just a girl who lived during World War II; she was a Jewish girl who spent two years of her life hiding, fearing for her and her family’s lives.

Anne Frank was born on June 12, 1929 in Frankfurt, Germany. Anne had an older sister named Margo Betti Frank. Margot was three years older than Anne. Anne was given a diary for her thirteenth birthday. World War II started on September 3, 1939.

Hitler did really bad damage to the world. He humiliated people. He did experiments on innocent people. He even wrote a book about how he wished to eliminate all Jews from Germany.

Anne Frank and her family went into hiding on July 6, 1942. The Van Pels soon joined the Franks in the Secret Annex on November 16, 1942. In December 1943, Anne had influenza; she took all sorts of cough remedies to keep herself from coughing. Anne and her companions lived in the Secret Annex for two years. They had rules to follow, which Anne had typed out. She wrote in her diary about her opinions about Hitler and her daily Secret life. She wrote ‘We’re Jews in chains, chained to one spot, without any rights… one day this terrible war will be over… we’ll be people again and not just Jews." April 11, 1944.

On August 4, 1944 Anne and her companions were found and arrested by the Germans. Anne, Margot, and their mother were all sent together to Auschwitz concentration camp on September 6, 1944. Their friend, Mr. Van Pels, was sent to the gas chamber in early October 1944. Margot and Anne got separated from their mother and were sent to Bergen-Belsen in Germany. Their mother Edith Frank died on January 6, 1945. Anne and her sister died within days of each other. Anne Frank died in March 1945, at fifteen years old.

Anne Frank is a hero because she has inspired me to be a famous writer. Her diary expressed her feelings deeply. She is now a famous writer. She wanted to be a great writer when she got older. Her dream came true. She wrote in her diary, 'I want to be useful or bring joy to all people, even those I've never met. I want to go on living even after my death!" Anne Frank diary, April 5, 1944.
