Andrew Henderson

by Jacob from Reynoldsburg

During the Korean war, Andrew Henderson was contemplating on joining the military. He was always thinking about others so one fateful day he took the dive and joined the Army. This man is my grandfather, and I have looked up to him since I was a young kid. I personally think he is a hero because he made a selfless decision in joining the military and a hero to me is someone who is selfless. He also inspired me to join the military. Which means he is inspirational and that is another trait of a hero in my eyes. When someone comes into your life, I feel like they should leave your life as good or better than they found it. My grandfather made my life better when he came into it.

When he got out of the military he joined his local police department. He became the sheriff for a town in Wisconsin. This is why I think he is a hero because he never stops thinking about others. He never stops caring which makes him a good father, grandfather, and an all around good man. Since then he has had numerous jobs and is now retired. He lives in Dallas, Texas, now with my grandmother and is still a hero to me. Even today I still strive to be like him. Even though I don't see him often I still think his life has influenced me in a positive way.

So when I think of a hero I think of someone who is like my grandfather. Someone who is caring and never stops thinking about the well being of others. Someone who is selfless and is modest enough to put others first sometimes. Those are the main traits I think a hero should have and when I get older I just wish I could be at least half the man my grandfather is.
