"As you grow older you will discover that you have two hands; one for helping yourself, the other for helping others." ~Audrey Hepburn. Audrey Hepburn, a strong woman with a tender heart is considered a hero because of her countless actions to help those in need throughout the global community along with her sensational talents on and off the screen. Hepburn was one of the best actresses of her time. Having had lead roles in major films and plays, Hepburn won the hero title because of her humanitarian work with UNCEF. Audrey Hepburn was a phenomenal actress and dancer but traveling to 3rd world countries to help children in need and being a spokeswoman for UNICEF is what made her a true hero. Hepburn was born in Brussels and then moved to Monte Carlo to pursue her dance career where she was “discovered” and moved to America to work toward becoming a breakthrough actress.

Audrey juggled to take care of her 2 sons and working for UNICEF. She traveled the world, working herself to death to help others. Audrey was given the screen actors guild award for lifetime achievement and would likely be remembered as “UNICEFS hardworking fairy godmother“(Gitlin, Martin).

Hepburn was born in Brussels in 1929 and became known to the Hollywood scene in 1953. Hepburn had a rough childhood; “…left by the Nazi occupation of Holland during world War II” (M. Suzanne). Hepburn lived with her relatives in the Germanic nation of Holland during the Nazi invasion in World War II. Audrey was just a young girl growing up in the barren society of the war, without parents. As Audrey grew older she “Burst into the Hollywood scene with 1953’s Roman Holiday. The role landed Hepburn an Oscar at the tender young age of 24 for best actress.” (M. Suzanne). Audrey sprung up from her deprived childhood to become one of the best actresses of her time. Though she may have been new to the acting scene, she had raw talent and a background of exquisite ballet dancing.

Audrey Hepburn was a talented young lady and should be not only remembered as one of the best actresses of her time; “While Hepburn’s acting was highly appreciated in her lifetime, she would doubtless prefer to be remembered as UNICEF’s hardworking fairy godmother“(Gitlin, Martin). Though Hepburn worked hard to achieve her fame through performing she should be remembered for her hard work in healing sick children in poor countries. Hepburn was one of the best actresses of her time and won her first Oscar at the age of 24 for the lead role in her first movie Roman Holiday. Audrey was also; “the goodwill ambassador for the international children’s relief organization UNICEF“(Tyle, Laura B.). Audrey Hepburn received many titles throughout her life, from best actress to lifetime achievement. Audrey worked her last years of her life for the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Relief Fund.

Audrey accomplished a lot throughout her lifetime, but should be remembered by her humanitarian work. “Hepburn utilized her experiences in ministering to the world’s starving children” (Gitlin Martin). Audrey traveled the world, to 3rd world countries to help children in need. Hepburn focused on the children throughout the world because they are the future. Audrey traveled to Somalia and; “worked in the field, nursing sick children and reporting on the suffering she witnessed”(Tyle). Hepburn helped these children who never knew of her fame, but knew her for the beautiful kind woman that changed their lives. Audrey made a difference, she didn’t only represent UNICEF but actually worked, helping and nursing the sick children in need of help throughout the world and changing their lives.
