My hero is Abraham Lincoln. "He was born on 12.2 in 1809 near Hodgenville in the USA. He died on 14.4 in 1865, when he was shot by John Wilkes Booth.(Roger Norton)" Lincoln was the 16th president of the USA and faced the biggest crisis in the USA - The Civil War.

"When the Ft. Sumter fell, Lincoln raised an army and decided to fight to save the Union from falling apart. Lincoln stuck with this pro-Union policy for four long years of Civil War. However, there were enormous pressures. On Jan. 1, 1863, Lincoln convinced the congressmen and the Emancipation Proclamation went into effect. This was Lincoln's declaration of freedom for all slaves in the areas of the Confederacy not under Union control." (Roger Norton)

Abraham Lincoln is remembered as the leader of the Union during the Civil War. He is also known for beginning the process that led to the end of slavery in the USA, for his speeches and letters and his presidential role in the USA.

I first began thinking about Lincoln when I saw the movie about him. It occurred to me that he was really a great man. After that I read more about his life. I chose him for my hero because of his perseverance to end slavery in the USA. He gave me motivation to never give up in stressful situations, even if the odds are not in my favour. I also respect him because he wanted to free the black people from slavery and suffering. That only is a heroic thing he has done. He is also an inspiration to me, to not be egotistic and help other people.
