Anne Sullivan

On April 14th 1866, Anne Sullivan was born; Anne was the oldest of 5. Her father's name was Thomas Sullivan he was an alcoholic and her mother Alice Chloesy Sullivan died from tuberculosis when Anne was 9. At age 7 Anne got tuberculosis, the same disease that her mother died from. On February 22, 1876, Anne and her younger brother Jimmie were sent to Almshouse in Massachusetts. Two years later, her brother Jimmie died and her treatments for her tuberculosis had failed. When Anne grew older she went to teach at Perkins School of the Blind in Boston. She graduated the school in 1886. A couple years later she was offered to work with the Keller family. Their daughter Helen Keller was blind, deaf and mute. I thought that her helping Helen was important because, at first she and Helen had a very had time together. She worked with Helen for 13 years. During that 13 years Helen and Anne became very close.

Why is Anne Sullivan my hero? When Anne was little her life was very difficult. Her father was very tough on her; her dad was an alcoholic and also abusive. Her mother died from a disease called tuberculosis. Her father left the family 2 years after the death of her mother. I picked her childhood life because it shows even though you having a hard time in life that you never give and keep your head held high. I thought Anne was a very brave and strong. This is one reason why I picked Anne Sullivan.

Another reason why I picked Anne Sullivan is because her life turned upside down and that’s because she never gave up. When Anne grew older she went to Perkins School of the Blind and did very well. I think that is amazing because she didn’t let her childhood life get in the way. If she gave up, who knew what might have happened. After she graduated the school, she was asked to work with the Keller Family. By helping Helen Keller (who was mute, death and blind.) She made her life and Helen's life very different.

I think that Anne is really inspiring because she showed a lot of courage, bravery and strength. The mother and father of Helen were very pleased with Anne. She showed that you never give up and if you just believe in yourself you can do anything you want, but you can’t let anything get in the way.

If Anne Sullivan was still alive, I think her advice would be to never give. To keep your head held high all time and when the time gets rough just to have self confidence. For my conclusion, I think that Anne Sullivan was a very brave women.
