A-Shin

A-shin, his real name is Shin-Hong Chen. He was born on December 6th, 1975 in Taipei, Taiwan. He‘s a vocal of my favorite rock band in Taiwan---Mayday. He is very talented; he writes many songs and lyrics, now he is a music manager!

His father was an owner of CD store. When he was little, he could listen to any CD he liked. When he entered senior high school, Affiliated Senior High School of National Taiwan Normal University, and a guitar changed his life. He joined his school’s guitar club, where he met Mayday’s guitarist---Monster. They had the same interest and both lost themselves in music. Then, they went on to form a rock band. Why wasn’t A-shin a guitarist in their band? Because he wasn’t good enough h to play the guitar in a band, so his only choice was to be a vocal in their band. The next year, A-shin and Monster became president and deputy of the club respectively.

After A-shin and the other members of the band graduated from high school, they went on to form a rock band called “Mayday” and began to perform at many schools and create their own songs. In order to win performance-opportunities, they not only performed at many campuses but also sang in the restaurant. Because of other band’s help, they began to join CD’s produce. By accident, a CD company”Rock Records & Tapes” appreciated their songs, Rock Records & Tapes decided signed a contract with them. To Rock Records & Tapes and Mayday’s surprise, their first album became a bestseller in the CD store. We could hear Mayday’s songs around the street; they soon held their first concert. Mayday’s second album was nominated for Golden Melody Awards. The next year, Mayday’s third album won Golden Melody Awards.

After Mayday finished their third album, Mayday’s members had served in the military. Mayday decided to dismiss their band for some time. Many people thought when they came back to the stage; they won’t be popular like before. But after two years, their concert proved to the world that people are wrong. Their fourth album and fifth album are still very popular. We can not only hear Mayday at Taiwan but also around the Asia. Now they are going to prepare their sixth album!

Now in Taiwan, rock bands become very popular. We can hear many kinds of music. A-shin not only writes Mayday’s own songs but also writes other singer’s song; he even try to write songs from a women’s perspective.
