by Shane from Selden

Benjamin Solomon Carson is my hero and a hero to a countless amount of others since he has done so much to get where he is today. Ben Carson is a hero because he started at the bottom and worked himself all the way to the top. To become a hero Ben did extraordinary actions that people look up to him as an idol. Additionally Ben can also be considered a hero due to the fact that today Ben Carson is saving and improving lives everyday. These are the reasons why such a large amount of people look up to and try to be just like Benjamin Solomon Carson.

Benjamin Carson is a great person who made great contributions to society and had even greater achievements. Ben’s first achievement occurred in the 6th grade when Ben went from the bottom of his class, being the “class dummy”, to being the most intelligent child at the top his class within one year. To prevent any child from having a childhood like his own he tries to encourage children from grades four to twelve to do their best and get nominated for the Carson Fund which gives a nominated student $1000-$2000 towards any college of their choice. Carson’s next achievement was being chosen out of 124 other people to take the, 1 of 2, spots available as an intern for neurosurgery in John Hopkins Hospital. Lastly, Carson wrote 3 books Think Big, The Big Picture, which were both mainly about what hard work and faith in God can do and his book Gifted Hands is an autobiography that was made into a motion picture.

Benjamin took many steps to obtain the lifestyle he currently has today. Ben's life as a child was very tough for young Ben Carson. He and his brother Curtis Carson were both at the bottom of each of their classes for almost all of their elementary school years. But that all changed over the time of one year in the sixth grade when Ben was now at the top of his class. Then, by the time Ben was thirty-three he had become the youngest head of pediatric neurosurgery in John Hopkins Hospital history. In addition Ben Carson married Candy Rustin in 1975 after meeting during their semester in Yale University. Later on Ben and Candy both had three children named Murray, Benjamin Jr. and Rhoeyce. With all of the events just mentioned, Benjamin Carson has a great life.

Today, Benjamin Carson is a very famous, highly honored neurosurgeon who has done many successful surgeries. He is most known his surgery on the Binder twins. These two twins were both conjoined by the tops of their heads sharing one brain. The surgery lasted twenty-two hours and Ben had a surgical team of seventy people. This is also a famous surgery due to the type of surgery performed which had a very high failure rate. In the end both the babies survived with no brain damage at all. Later Ben was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom. That demonstrates that Benjamin Carson is a great person and is great at what he does and all the hard work it took him to become the man he is known as today really paid off.

During his lifetime Benjamin Solomon Carson has done many remarkable deeds, such as becoming the smartest kid in his class and growing up to be a great father, son and husband with a great family. Ben is now a world renowned surgeon and has had many successful surgeries because of Ben's great obstacles and achievements Benjamin Solomon Carson today is a hero for many people.
