My hero is Benjamin Franklin. He was a great man and started many organizations to help people in need. He had a very unique and humorous personality. He was the only person who signed all four of the most important documents in United States history. He was very interesting and involved in his community. I hope you think he is a hero and is very inspiring too. “He was a man of all trades.”

Benjamin Franklin was born 300 years ago in Boston. He had 16 other siblings in his family. He was the youngest and tenth child in his family. If you have a large family you can imagine how hectic it would be in his house. He had loving, religious and strict parents. Many people who have met him say he was “kind, open, and loving” to the people around him. His older brother accepted him as an apprentice printer. Benjamin Franklin wrote noticeable articles and after a while his articles where so outstanding he started getting famous. Finally, his brother had had enough of his excellent writing and kept abusing him until Benjamin ran away to New York. Later his brother regretted his cruel actions against his brother.

Benjamin Franklin helped win the Revolutionary War by raising money for supplies for the soldiers who were in the war. He had a very intelligent and inventive mind and used it for good. He invented many things, too, such as the heat-efficient stove for warming houses, swimming fins to help a person swim faster, the glass harmonica and the lightning rod which later saved his house full of important documents from fire, because of a lightning strike.

A few things that helped Benjamin Franklin become a great man were encouraging parents, persistence, education, and being able to learn from his mistakes. He overcame many obstacles like not having enough money, being abused, and having no friends to help him along. Being away from home is hard, even for a short period of time. Benjamin Franklin had experienced being away from home for a very long period of time at a young age. He saw people in terrible situations and promised to help them someday; later he did just what he said. Things like this are happening all over the globe and I think everybody able should be like Benjamin Franklin and help people who need attention and a loving friend. The world could be a place of peace and prosperity if we all did this.

He started many organizations including the first hospital in America, the first fire station in Pennsylvania, and started a route between the U.S. and Canada. He also helped reform the police station in Pennsylvania, when criminals were getting away unpunished after being caught. He saw that schools had grades only to the end of middle school. When he saw this he decided to help them so he made schools go to higher grades so kids could have better education, better lives, and more friends. He founded an organization where people would volunteer and help him clean up the streets in Pennsylvania. He also helped raise money for the first public library in Pennsylvania by letting people borrow in return for them buying more books for the library so it could have a wider collection. He inspired many people to help others and encouraged those people to start with small acts of kindness. He would say to those people, “A penny saved is a penny earned, and then later, when you are wealthy and prosperous you can give to the poor souls that are starving, dirty, and hurt.” He was always becoming braver, wiser, and more cheerful for every act of kindness he did for others.

Benjamin Franklin was many things, a loving son, a caring father, a good brother, an excellent husband, and a wise peace maker. He had many jobs that helped him make his way to success and help the world. He became an inventor, scientist, diplomat, printer, and writer, but for the most part his career and goal was to start lots of helpful organizations. He did this not only in America but in Canada, France, and Britain.

Benjamin Franklin was a great example for all of us. He did many things that were amazing, that we should all try to include in our lifetime. He demonstrated perseverance, love, friendship, and many other good characteristics; even if you don’t have all these traits you should try to and, do your best!

Benjamin Franklin was able to adapt to many different languages. He taught himself French, Latin, Spanish, Italian, and German with only a little help from teachers, friends, or parents. It really helped him become an excellent diplomat so he could go to different countries and have more influence on them. He did so many projects, and started so many organizations in Pennsylvania that Pennsylvania became the most advanced in all of the 13 Colonies of America at that time.

Benjamin Franklin did many experiments with electricity. One time he tried using wires to shock turkeys and accidentally got electrified, he went out cold. Luckily when he woke up he was fine. Sometimes he would reflect at fancy dinner parties and he would say, “I meant to kill a turkey, and instead I nearly killed a goose.” Another famous quote from Benjamin Franklin was “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.”
