Colby W. Cecil

by Erin from Georgia

My hero is my cousin, Colby. I have known Colby my whole life. Colby died at age nineteen in a motorcycle accident. Colby lived in Boca Raton, Florida, which is located about an hour away from Miami. I loved and still do love Colby.

Colby is my hero because he always did things for me. Colby was not shy and he taught me to be myself. Everything Colby did he left his own little mark on it. Even if he did not know it, you could tell he did it. Colby was also athletic. For example, he wake-boarded. I think what makes Colby so special to me is the time we spent together. During the summer we would go to our grandparents’ house together, on Christmas we would get together, and on some long weekends my family would go to his house. During the summer when we were at our grandparents’ we would ride go-carts. Since I was never old enough until a couple of years ago to drive, Colby would drive and I would be the passenger. On these adventures he always asked me if I wanted to go slower or faster or if I wanted to get out. Also, Colby taught me several things. One thing he taught me was that it is okay to mess-up. Another thing he taught me was that nobody is perfect. Colby did several things for me that make him my hero.

Colby is my hero and he is very similar to, but very different from the heroes in ancient Greece. One thing that made Colby similar to the ancient Greek heroes was that he was sometimes impulsive. Colby is very different from the heroes of ancient Greece because he was always very honest. Colby did not always do the right thing, but he helped me learn how to. I will always love my cousin, Colby.
