Anne Frank vs. Clara Barton

by Francys from San Mateo

Have you dealt with a life-altering event? A life-altering event is a significant event that could happen to anyone and cause a change in character or composition. Anne Frank and Clara Barton have both experienced life- altering events. Anne Frank was a fifteen year old girl who lost her life at an early age because of the Holocaust. Anne Frank was a Jewish thirteen year old girl who went into hiding with her family and friends in an annex, she stayed hidden for two years until ratted out. She dealt with this life-altering event by writing in her diary. Another person who dealt with a life altering event was Clara Barton, she dealt with the death of her mother which inspired her to take action in the battlefield, assisting injured soldiers.

First of all, dealing with a life-altering event can either be dreadful or wonderful. Clara Baton was born on Christmas day in 1821 North Oxford, Massachusetts. Clara's father was Captain Stephen Barton, he was in the military and Clara's mother was Sarah Barton. At the age of seventeen Clara decided to become a teacher at North Oxford. After her mother's death, Clara moved to Washington D.C. and started taking interest in learning about the government. She later became one of the first women to work in the U.S. patent office. She ended up losing her job because men did not like a woman working with them. In 1860 the Civil War started and Clara Barton volunteered by assisting to injured soldiers in the battlefield and by getting people to donate supplies. Clara Barton earned the title "The Angel of the Battlefield", she helped to find over twenty thousand soldiers and she started the red cross after having made a trip to Switzerland and learning about the Treaty of Geneva.. aking action like Clara Barton is an example of how to deal with a life-altering event. Clara Barton was not afraid of the danger in a battlefield. "I may be compelled to face danger, but never fear it and while our soldiers can still stand and fight, I can still stand feed and nurse them."

Second of all there are other ways of dealing with a life-altering event. Annelies Marie Frank also known as Anne Frank was born June 12th, 1929 at Frankfurt am Main, Germany, Anne Frank was born into a Jewish family. When thirteen being Jewish in the time period of the Holocaust was dangerous. Which is why Anne Frank, her family, and friends of the family went into hiding in an annexe to avoid being sent to a concentration camp by the Gestapo. Anne Frank, her family and friends stayed hidden for two years until being discovered by the Gestapo. Before being discovered, Anne Frank had kept a diary, writing in her diary was her outlet from this life-altering event because she did not have any friends while in hiding so she confided in her diary. Isolation made her turn to her diary as an outlet from her life-altering event. "How wonderful it is no one need wait a single moment before starting to improve the world."

Third of all there are different methods of how to get through a life altering-event. Clara Burton took action and Anne Frank wrote in her diary as an outlet. Anne Frank expressed herself in words through writing. Clara Barton expressed herself during her life altering event by taking action by helping soldiers.

Both Clara Barton and Anne Frank were very brave. Anne Frank having to deal with solitude and Clara Barton having to deal with the risk of being wounded. They may have gone through different situations but dealt with them with the same amount of bravery. Clara Barton and Anne Frank can teach many people to have courage to deal with certain situations.
