Mile Klopcic

by Anze from Zagorje ob Savi, Slovenia

Mile Klopcic is one of the greatest Slovenian poets. He is not very famous, but his poems are still popular. As I said before, I think he is one of best poets.  I really love to read his poems because he has such an interesting style and his poems are many times, very sad.

Mile Klopcic was born on 16th September 1905. Interesting, he wasn't born in Zagorje ob Savi, he was born in France. His family was very poor. His father was a factory worker and his mother had no job. There were five children in his family. When he was three years old his family moved to Zagorje because his father started to work as a coal miner. Their life became little better, but it was still very hard.

In the 20s he started to write poems. When he was only 19 years old he published his first book. The name of the book was Preproste pesmi. It was very popular. The poems were talking about hard life of factory workers and coal miners. We can say that he became their hero.

He was also working as a translator. He translated many works of Pushkin and Lermontov. He is also one of our best translators.

He died in 1985.
