A Man with an Accordion
by Olga Unal
Painting
On this painting oil on canvas 40 x 50, I have painted a Russian villager with an accordion. It is not clear whether music is a job or a hobby for him. It is clear, however, that the man is not rich. He is not performing any hard physical job to become a hero. He is doing more than that: he is doing what he loves “playing the accordion“ and demonstrates the beauty of this musical instrument and beauty of music, in general, to the people. We live in the era of machines and technology. Accordion is not quite in fashion today to compare to those musical instruments that produce electronic music. The old man has not only chosen to play the musical instrument out of fashion, he is also dressed up as a typical accordion player in Russia. By this, he is able to stick to his own passion, to his culture, history and traditions. That is in fact the greatest heroic act of today.
