Walt Disney

by Brandt from Saskatchewan

The hero that I chose is Walt Disney. He was an American film producer, director, screenwriter, voice actor, animator, entrepreneur, entertainer, international icon, and philanthropist. He was one of five children, four boys and a girl. His family lived in Marceline, Missouri. Walt was good with art and sold drawings to his neighbours for money, he went to McKinley High School in Chicago to study art and photography. Then in 1918 he joined the military but was rejected because he was only 16 at the time. So he went to the Red Cross and got shipped to France driving ambulances and chauffeuring Red Cross officials for a year. His ambulance had a bunch of drawings of Disney Cartoons. Then he returned home got married and had two daughters. He began his career of art and drawing he made his first full length animated musical feature on December 21 1937 called snow white and the seven dwarfs. He also wanted a clean and organized amusement park. He opened Disneyland Park in 1955.

Walt Disney made many great movies and has some of the greatest cartoon characters of all time. He has his own amusement parks and has also created one of the greatest fictional characters of all time. Mickey Mouse, which he played the voice of. That's one of the reasons that I chose Walt is because he has made all these great movies and the greatest amusement park ever. Plus when I was younger I would always watch Mickey Mouse or Winnie the Pooh, pretty well anything that was made by him I would watch over and over and over again. I think it was because Walt really knew how to make people smile, and he must have known what kids liked. When Snow White came out the theatres made 1000's of dollars. Which during the Great Depression was a lot of money.

Walt had lived in many places. He was born in Canada, but, moved to Chicago and then after being in the Red Cross for a year in France he moved back to America and lived in Kansas because jobs in Chicago were scarce. In the end he would live in California for the rest of his life where he lived with his wife and two daughters. Later he died in 1966 and his wife in 1997, the house would later be sold and demolished. His best place he lived was California though because he had done so much there with movies and story making as well as cartoon characters designing.

Walt had lived during WW1 and through the Great Depression. As a child living through that time was very difficult because there wasn't much money so Walt had to sell his drawings for money. He would later live through WW2 continuing to make movies and stories for people to watch and listen to. His death didn't occur until 1966 so he had gone through quite a lot of things. He was able to set up his amusement park during the 1950's.

Walt Disney is very important to me because of all of his great movies and everything he has made. He has got to be the sickest beauty of all time and he was just a guy that seemed happy all the time and was carefree. I didn't live through his time and didn't know him at all. But just the impact that he had on everyone who watched his shows just seemed like he was a good guy and someone you could look up too. Plus Mickey Mouse was one of my favourite characters because of his voice. Plus Goofy could always make you smile even when you weren't happy, then Donald was always the duck who got mad but in the end you knew he was a good dude. That's why I liked those shows because they were always so funny and they were good family movies where everyone could sit around and watch.
