Bill Gates

by Ben from Cincinnati

"One thing I love about this [decade] is this is a period where the reality is driving the expectation."

When you think of a hero I think of someone who saved someone’s life or something like that. Well my hero didn’t save a life but he raised $27 billion for global health and learning. Bill Gates is my hero because he is trying to make a difference to other people in other countries and other places by starting a foundation.

His organization is called the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and it focuses on global health, education, libraries and the Pacific Northwest. It began in January 2000 when the Gates Learning Foundation and the William H. Gates Foundation merged. The Foundation is led by Bill’s dad, William H. Gates, Sr., and Patty Stonesifer. It has an endowment of $27 billion.

Bill Gates was born on October 18, 1955 in Seattle. His dad was an attorney, his mom was a teacher, and he has two sisters. When Bill was 13, he noticed that he liked software so he programmed his first computer. Bill went into Havard, but left his junior year and wanted to make Microsoft with his friend Paul Allen. Microsoft is one the biggest technology companies.

Bill Gates, in my opinion, is a “Hero to Others Near and Far,” because he helped begin a foundation, and in the book, A Hero’s Trail, the people tried to help people.

That is why Bill Gates is my hero. I hope you enjoyed reading this. Please visit the link below for more information on the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
