Celebrate Eco-Heroism

Laguna Beach Boys and Girls Club and The MY HERO Project

The MY HERO Project has just completed a 12 week Celebrate Eco-Heroism program for 3rd and 4th grade children at the Laguna Beach Boys and Girls Club.

The program introduced students to environmental and disaster preparedness heroes through films, guest speakers and field-trips. Weekly activities enabled students to leverage MY HERO’s media and technology resources to build their skills and express their ideas through music, artworks, stories and short films. The students were exposed to camera and interview techniques as well as creative computer software such as Garage Band, iMovie, Comic Life and the Create Program on the MY HERO website. All of the students participated in a group song, a group stop motion project and an overall video document of this program on the theme of ECO Heroism.

The multi-disciplinary approach to media arts and environmental education reinforced concepts, facts and empowered students to realize their own potential to make a positive difference in the community. All student works have been shared at the Boys and Girls Club and will travel to the Laguna Beach Public Library and Susi Q center and be showcased at a Local Hero Fest in fall.

The Celebrate Heroism Program was made possible with support from The MY HERO Project, the Laguna Community Foundation, and the Massen Greene Foundation.
