Connie Dowker from Kingston, Tennessee
It was 8:30 a.m. on a Saturday morning. Two-year-old Jaret
kept running from the bathroom to his daddy, and back to the
bathroom. He was excited about something. When his father
went to investigate he found that the exhaust fan in the
bathroom had caught fire. His father put the fire out.
I believe Jaret saved our house from burning down and not only saved his own life but those of his dad and his baby sister.

Nancy from Houston, TexasKim is my daughter who has spina bifida. She is 14 soon to be 15 (and able to drive and don't you forget it!!) Kim uses crutches and a wheelchair to get around but rarely do you hear her complain. Having gone through those terrible teen years myself I am amazed how well she is handling everything. She plays violin , skis, goes to the mall and movies just like the other kids but there's so much that she can't do!! And she handles it with such grace, she will always be my hero!!
Diamond Hicks and Kelli Lyons from Chicago, Illinois
Diamond says: "Kelli is my hero because I love her. She
makes me laugh." Diamond loves Arthur because he lives in
the TV, he lives in books and I like to read his books. My
favorite friends in Arthur are DW and the Baby.

Sheila Parker from Cottageville, West VirginiaChris Parker is my youngest son . He is 18 now and during his Junior year in high school, my mother died. He was very close to my mother...she took care of him while my husband and I worked. He stayed during the day with his "Mama" until he started Kindergarten. My mother suffered a great deal before her death and my son knew this. He was my strength during the sad days that followed her death..always by my side and his strength kept me calm.In honor of my mother he started a program called SAGE (Student Athletes Giving to the Elderly. During lunch, high school students would go to the local nursing home and visit with the residents. This was rewarding for both students and residents and many friendships were established. He is a leader, kind, compassionate of others and he is my hero. If I were a kid I would want to grow up to be just like Chris.

Jeanne from Laguna Beach, CaliforniaThis morning my son Charlie was looking out at the ocean and he saw something very unusual. A deer was swimming in the ocean away from shore. It was scared and lost and was in danger of drowning.
Little Charlie paddled out on his surf board and spent the next hour trying to get ahead of the deer in order to force this frightened animal back to shore. Finally with the help of one other life guard they were able to surround the deer and force it back to shore. When I finally caught up with the lifeguards they told me that Charlie was a hero. I am very proud of his courage and strength in the face of this difficult challenge. The deer returned to the hills and safety. Today is a day we will both remember.
