9TH ANNUAL MY HERO INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL TO TAKE PLACE ON NOV. 23RD @ USC

Los Angeles, CA – 11/5/13 – Since 2005, The MY HERO International Film Festival has been a platform for media artists who want to create positive social change through filmmaking. The festival celebrates young filmmakers and professionals alike, whose stories celebrate heroes from all walks of life.

Some of this year's submissions include films from The Let It Ripple Series, an exploration in cloud filmmaking by Tiffany Shlain and The Moxie Institute; short documentaries from the GE FOCUS FORWARD series, which highlight individuals striving to improve the world through innovative thinking; a trailer for the feature documentary FEMME, produced by Sharon Stone and directed by Emmanuel Itier, which highlights heroic women who are positively transforming global society; and many more submissions from all over the globe.

As part of MY HERO's efforts to inspire a global audience, these films and others can now be viewed on The MY HERO Festival website: http://myhero.com/FilmFestival.

In addition, the general public will have a chance to pick its own favorites with the festival's new, online People's Choice ballot. Anyone can visit http://myhero.com/PeoplesChoice and select their top choice for the People's Choice Award from 6 nominees.

MY HERO is also honored to announce that the winner of the 2013 MY HERO Media Award is GE FOCUS FORWARD. A cooperative effort between GE and cinelan; the series uses quality filmmaking to tell inspiring real-life stories.

There will a special screening of the GE FOCUS FORWARD short films on Thursday, November 21 at the Capshaw-Spielberg Center for Arts and Educational Justice.

Winners in each competition category will be announced at the MY HERO International Film Festival Awards Ceremony, which will commence on Saturday, November 23, 2013 at the University of Southern California's School of Cinematic Arts. Born on The 4th of July author Ron Kovic will present a special prize in his name to the film that best exemplifies the spirit of peace and non-violence. Amy and Kathy Eldon of Creative Visions will bestow a special Activist Award in honor of Kathy's son Daniel, a journalist who was slain while reporting on the 1993 Somali conflict.

The Festival's Screenings and Awards Ceremony will take place in the Ray Stark Family Theater, a part of USC's George Lucas Building.

MY HERO will be live tweeting throughout the event. Make sure to follow @myhero on Twitter and use the hashtag #MYHEROIFF to see what is happening. http://twitter.com/myhero
