Helen Keller

by Mackenzie from Bradford

The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched. They must be felt from the heart.

When you were young could you write without watching what you were doing? Well my hero could. Guess what, Helen Keller lost her sight and hearing at the age of nineteen months of age. Also at the age of sixteen she had an operation on her eyes to restore some of her sight. Unfortunately her sight did not come back completely.

Helen Keller was born on June 27, 1880 in Tuscumbia, Alabama. Helen Keller was home schooled by Anne Sullivan. Her family members were Kate Adams Keller, Arthur Henley Keller, James and Simpson Keller, Mildred and Philips Brooks Keller. Did you know that at the age of nineteen months, Helen Keller got a really high fever and after that she was deaf and blind.

Anne Sullivan influenced Helen. This person influenced my hero's life by helping Helen follow the rules simply. Helen Keller`s obstacles were not being able to see or hear at the age of 19 months old. Helen Keller overcame her obstacles by learning the meaning of the word water. She learned it by Anne Sullivan using finger spelling in Helen's hand when she put Helen's hand under running water.

Helen Keller`s actions in her life were getting a job as an author, writing one book about her life and ended up with 5 or more books just about her life and how hard it was. Helen did not go to school as a kid because she was homeschooled by Anne Sullivan. Helen learned how to read with a tool called Braille. Helen learned how to write by Anne writing the words in Helen`s hand. Helen became a hero by writing books about her experiences, also about the enormous amount of challenges from blindness, Deafness AND speechlessness. My hero accomplished overcoming her challenges of blindness, Deafness and speechlessness. Helen also accomplished writing five books about her life. She also accomplished learning the meanings of the words water cup, food and shelter. Helen met very many kings, queens and presidents.

Helen Keller shows creativity because when she was young she was creative when she was learning how to talk. She shows respect because she respected Anne when she was teaching. She is optimistic because she was optimistic when she had to eat with a fork and knife when she did not want to.

Helen Keller influenced me by encouraging me to never give up on learning if I was ever deaf or blind. Also she inspired me to write books about my life. She inspired me to do that because she wrote books about her life.

So what I have been saying is that Helen Keller got a really high fever when she was young and when she recovered she became deaf and blind. Helen Keller is really interesting and that is why she is my hero.

I got all of my information from a book called a girl named Helen Keller and another book called the Value of Determination. Most of my information came from a website.
