Nelson Mandela

Nelson Mandela was born in South Africa, on 18 July 1918.
When he was a child, at nine years old, his father died. Nelson went to school at Healdtown and kept studying at Fore Hare. He met Oliver Tambo in this school and they became really good friends. Nelson participated at a student march and he was expelled in 1940 and he decided to continue his studies by correspondence, in Johannesburg.

In 1942, Mandela joined the ANC (African National Congress) to stop the whites’ domination in the country. After his studies, he fought against discrimination in the country and organized a resistance movement to oppose the legislation. In 1956 Mandela was arrested and judged as a traitor but he was released in 1961.
After the mass murder in Sharpeville, Mandela created a military foundation. Mandela was indicted for treachery and he was condemned for all his life. After twenty-six years in prison, Mandela was liberated by the president and he became the president of the ANC. The president Frederik De Klerk ended the illegality of the ANC and asked the ANC to maintain the peace in South Africa.
With the president, Mandela ended the Apartheid and thanks to that, Nelson Mandela was given the Nobel Prize of Peace in 1993. In 1994, Mandela was elected president in South Africa.
Now, Nelson Mandela organizes the fight against the AIDS, the disease which had taken his son two years ago.

Nelson Mandela

I choose Nelson Mandela because I think he is a great man who didn’t hesitate to stand up against the discrimination. Thanks to him, the Apartheid ended and South Africa returned to a peaceful period. He is one of these people who have a great influence on the world.

In his life, Nelson Mandela did great things. He created the first black organisation in South Africa without worrying about the discrimination against black people. He fought all his life to make people forget the differences between whites and blacks and transform South Africa into a peaceful country. Even when he was in jail, he didn’t give up his ideas and kept acting against discrimination.
He always believed in his friends and he always has had confidence in himself. He did all he could do to realize his dream, give South Africa peace and happiness, and he succeeded in this.
