DOCUMENTARY TRIBUTE TO AFGHAN PHOTOJOURNALISTS WINS 2015 DAN ELDON ACTIVIST AWARD

SANTA MONICA, CA 11/14/15 - The My Hero Film Festival is pleased to announce the winner of the 2015 Dan Eldon Activist Award.  “Frame by Frame” is a bracing tribute, which follows four Afghan photojournalists as they navigate a new and dangerous post-war media landscape.

Taking a photograph was illegal when the Taliban ruled Afghanistan.  After the regime fell from power in 2001, a fledgling free press was born, which sparked a photography revolution.  "Frame by Frame" tells the story of the four photojournalists as they struggle to build a free press after decades of war and oppression.

Through interviews and archival footage shot secretly during the Taliban regime, the film connects audiences with the photojournalists as they face the realities of building a free press in their country, when foreign troops and the eyes of the media started to turn away.

“Frame by Frame” has won more than a dozen awards, has screened at AFI Docs, BFI London and has won more than a dozen awards.  It is currently in a theatrical on-demand release.

The Dan Eldon Activist Award is given each year to a film that uses media to bring about positive change.  Eldon was a passionate activist, artist and photojournalist, fearless in his quest to help others and tell stories that needed to be told.

In 1993, at the age of twenty-two, Eldon was killed on assignment in Somalia. His mother Kathy Eldon presents the Dan Eldon Activist Award each year at the MY HERO International Film Festival.
