Synopsis
Albert Pujols grew up poor. Always a big fan of baseball, Pujols could not attend fancy baseball camps or buy the best equipment. His family struggled just to put food on the table. But Pujols had talent-even if it did not seem obvious to Major League Baseball scouts at first. Today, he is one of the most feared hitters in baseball. He helped lead the St. Louis Cardinals to a World Series championship in 2006. Yet Pujols has not forgotten his past, and he enjoys brightening the lives of those less fortunate.

how is he a hero?

Albert Pujols is considered a hero not only because he is an accomplished baseball player, but because he founded the Pujols Family Foundation to help kids with Down Syndrome.  His organization also helps impoverished families in the Dominican Republic.  Read more about him at
