What is a hero to you? A hero maybe a superstar or a person of law like a fireman or a policeman. A hero to me is someone so special that there are not many like them. My hero is Harry Vardon my great, great, great uncle. He was born on May 9, 1870. He died in 1937. He lived in Jersey, England. He only came to America to play golf!
Harry Vardon was famous for being a respected golfer and for the Vardon Grip that is still used today. Harry Vardon is also famous for being the winner of sixty-two tournaments in his career. Six were British Opens and one U.S Open.
Harry Vardon was influenced to play golf at the age of seven. He was a caddy for pros even before his time. Soon, he and his friends started going out and finding materials to make golf clubs. As a child, Harry Vardon was talented in golf. As he got older, Harry Vardon became better and better. Harry Vardon played in the pros for many years.
Harry Vardon is my hero because he influenced me to play golf. That makes him a role model to me. Harry had perseverance because he never gave up. He was admired by his fans and family. He was also inventive. He created his own grip. It is still being used today by most famous golfers.
I was once in a miniature golf tournament. I had to get to get par. I thought I would let my team down, and I thought about what my great, great, great uncle would do. So I closed my eyes and hoped for the best. I ended my day with a trophy in my hand. I was the happiest person in the world, and all because of my hero, Harry Vardon.
