My Hero Celebrates Women's History Month

On March 8, 1911, the world celebrated the first-ever International Women's Day. The day was created in order to bring attention to the important impact women have had in history, and continue to have today and in the future. It also served to help in the women's suffrage movement, which was in full swing in European and North American countries at the time. Women wanted to vote, and they wanted to have the same rights as men. And in many countries, they were successful in winning equal opportunities.

Throughout the 20th century, women all over the world have fought to gain equality and respect--and many, especially those in developing areas, are still fighting to have access to education and the right to speak their minds.

In the United States the day of celebrating women's history and progress has turned into a month, and so My Hero celebrates this month by featuring women heroes. On the My Hero Project site, you'll learn about some of the women who have played a vital role in the lives of other women and children, and human history.
