MY HERO has received a grant from the American Legion Child Welfare Foundation to select 4 student reporters from diverse backgrounds and from different regions around the country to be part of a MY HERO Student Video. The video will feature these young reporters interviewing their hero, and talking about heroism and ways to get involved in their community.

The MY HERO staff will make their selection from the stories students submit using the MY HERO Create Program.

MY HERO Student Reporter Slater met her hero Jean-Michel Cousteau in Catalina. See the video of her trip.
Here is what MY HERO will be looking for in the hero stories you submit:
  • Living heroes who can either be someone you know or someone whom you admire and would like to meet
  • Your description of heroism in action
  • How your hero has inspired you
  • Ways young people can get involved in their communities

The names of the student reporters will be announced in June 2006. Selected students will need to be available to work with the MY HERO team during the summer.

The completed video will be distributed to schools, organizations, communities and broadcasters, and will be streamed online on MY HERO in 2007.

Students are also invited to add their unique vision of heroism by contributing original works to the MY HERO Short Film Festival.

Prizes will be awarded in several categories and selected films will be streamed online. The deadline for The 2006 MY HERO Short Film Festival is August 31, 2006.

All submissions to the MY HERO Web site help keep this an ever-growing online community filled with hope and inspiration for people of all ages from all walks of life.
