Abraham Lincoln

by Chris from Overland Park

On February, 12 1809, a very special person was born and was Abraham Lincoln. He was born in a small log house in Kentucky. Lincoln was a hero just because he ended slavery, made railroads to transport, and got back the South.

As Lincoln grew, he became a president and the South feared their vote wouldn't count because the Republicans have the rights to say the South's vote doesn't count. Soon the South left the Union and other states started to copy them so Lincoln fights to save the Union. As a lot of people died Lincoln set the Emancipation Proclamation on January 1, 1863 and freed the slaves which made the South angry. As more people died in Gettysburg he made the Gettysburg Address on November 19, 1863, and buried dead people there. As the Civil War was near to ending, the Union and South fought and the Union won.

Soon, Lincoln used the National Bank to help make railroads for transporting foods, people, and materials. This helped us transport much faster than walking or shipping things by water.

On April 14, 1865 Lincoln attended a performance of Our American Cousin at Ford's Theatre in Washington. There Booth entered the presidential box and shot Lincoln. On April 15, 1865 Lincoln died. Throughout Lincoln's life, he had tough times like the Civil War and sometimes he had easy times. These are the reasons why he was a hero.
