Abraham Lincoln

by Jesse from San Diego

"All I am, or can be, I owe to my angel mother."

My hero, Abraham Lincoln, was born on February 12, 1809 in Harden County, Kentucky. Abraham Lincoln had a rough childhood because his mom died when he was only nine years old and because of that his dad had to move several times. When he was in his late teenage years, fourteen to twenty years old, he was a store owner and helped his dad in the fields as a farmer. Lincoln decided to study law and started his own successful law practice. Lincoln became a lawyer in 1836 and in the Spring of 1837 he moved to Springfield where he became Stuart’s law partner. He served as both an Illinois US legislator and a lawyer.

Lincoln ran unsuccessfully for the Illinois legislature in 1932. Two years later he was elected to a lower level for the first of four successive terms until 1841 as a Wig. Lincoln’s father was a Wig. Lincoln became chief in the Civil War to stop slavery or at least a big part of it.

Lincoln was winning in the Civil War and in the end the won. In February 1860 Lincoln won his first political appearance in the northeast. Lincoln became the 16th president on March 4, 1861 and died on April 15, 1865 by getting shot at Fords Theater by John Wilkes Booth.

Lincoln was a hero to me because he had set lots of black people free from being in slavery and because he set a great example to everybody in the world and someday I hope to be like him.
