Abraham Lincoln

by Diana from Lincoln

I’m going to tell you all you need to know about Abraham Lincoln so if you want to learn about Abraham Lincoln you have to listen!

Abraham Lincoln was born on 1809 and he grew up in a log cabin in Kentucky but he moved to Indiana, then Illinois.

Abraham Lincoln lived in Springfield for 25 years and he met a woman named Mary Todd and they danced at the grand ball and they finally got married on November 4, 1842 and he became a lawyer.

They finally had enough money to buy a house in 1844 in Springfield Illinois. His family didn’t have a lot of money and his mother Nancy Hanks Lincoln died from milk poising when he was young.

When he was born his family was really poor and when he got older his sister got married and died of childbirth. He never went to college. He was really tall and that made people make fun of him but he didn’t really care about what people thought of him and he never complained about how much money his family had.

His family only had one horse that everyone in his family used. It was splattered with mud and it was white. He figured how to read and write when he was 7 and he knew how to write his name when he was 8.

Abraham Lincoln was born in Kentucky in a one room log cabin. He went to high school and middle school but he missed a lot of 1st through 5th grade. His nickname is Abe Lincoln. He worked really hard with his politics and he ran for U.S senator but he lost to a man named Stephen A. Douglas.

His wife was Mary Todd Lincoln and she always told him someday he might become president but he said that would never happen he gave a lot of speeches and soon he was elected the 16th president. He wore a stovepipe hat that he carried money bills and newspapers. He signed the Emancipation Proclamation so he could free slaves and his hand shook when he wrote his name but he did it. When Abraham Lincoln got to the war in Manassas, Virginia on July and he put some people from the South in prison because of what they did in the war. Then he wrote the Gettysburg Address on Friday April 14, 1865.

Abraham Lincoln took Mrs. Lincoln to the Ford's Theater to see a play. A man named John Wilkes Booth, a white man, sneaked into the spot they were sitting in and tried to kill him because he was angry that Lincoln wanted to give voting rights to African Americans.

And on the next day Abraham Lincoln died on April 15, 1865 and the vice president Andrew Johnson became the 17th president of the United States.

I choose Abraham Lincoln as my hero because he was a great president and he was really smart and he was good with his politics. He died when he wasn’t really old because someone killed him.

He was a really interesting president because he was the tallest president - he was “6,4” and he had a dog named Fido and two of his sons died and he never cared what people thought of him and he was a great president.

I think Abraham Lincoln was a great president and he didn’t care what people thought of him and he didn’t complain like other people did and he was a really interesting president.
