Before I thought about who my hero was, I first asked myself, What is a hero? By my own terms, a hero is someone who saves you; someone you can count on when you in need, even if you don’t ask for help. That person has touched your life in some way that you have become a better person because of it. When thinking about these things, I would have to say that, other than Jesus, my hero is my Mom, Akina.
I grew up with my mom and grandparents. My mother and father had divorced with my only brother and I were just three and four, respectively. Since then, she has worked extra hard to make sure we were financially, physically, emotionally, and educationally stable. Often throughout the years she held double, at times triple, jobs to provide for the family. Like every family, we had our fair share of hard times, but she never let us she her disappointed, and always encouraged us to do our best in everything we participated in.
My mother has been supportive, firm, encouraging, dependable, patient and loving to my brother and me all our lives. If I could be half the person that she has been to us, I know that I will have touched many lives for the better.
