Oscar Arias Sanchez

by Brian from Cedar Grove

Norman Schwartzkoph, General of the Gulf War once said, “It doesn’t take a hero to order men into battle. It takes a hero to be one of those men who goes to battle.” Heroes are brave, inspiring and like to help people other than themselves. Heroes want to do. Heroes can help the world to be a better place. My hero is Oscar Arias Sanchez from Heredia, Costa Rica and he played a big part in the Central American peace process.

Oscar Arias Sanchez lived in 1941 and is still living. He was born in Heredia, Costa Rica. He received a Master’s Degree and a Ph.D. studying law and economics. Sanchez was always active in Costa Rican political affairs. He won a seat in Congress in 1978 and was elected Secretary General. In 1987, he was awarded the Noble Peace Prize.

My hero accomplished a great deal. He formed the Arias Foundation for Peace and Human Progress. Its purpose was to have no military in Panama and Haiti. Oscar Arias Sanchez didn’t want people to have wars. He wanted to have peace by negotiation. At the start of the decade, the year 2000 was declared the “Year of Education for Non- Violence” by Oscar Arias Sanchez.

My hero is a brave, self confident, and loyal. He is confident in what he says and is helpful for making the world a better place. Oscar inspires others by the way he helps people. He is a person who likes to help the world.

In conclusion, a hero is someone who devotes themselves to helping others by accomplishing great deeds. My hero inspires others by the things he does and says. Oscar Arias Sanchez of Costa Rica is a hero. Many people are inspired by him because he didn’t want people to have wars. He wanted to have peace by negotiation.
