Beverly Cleary

by Samantha from DuBois

“Quite often somebody will say, What year do your books take place? and the only answer I can give is, In childhood.”

In honor of Beverly Cleary, I did research about this hero in “Biography Today.” I chose Beverly Cleary because I like the books she writes, and I wanted to know a little more about her. After the research, I was glad I did because I learned so much about her.

Who knew such a normal beginning would give the world such a hero? Beverly was born on April 12, 1916, and is still living. She was born in McMinnville, Oregon. Her parents were Chester and Mable Bunn. Beverly lived in a 13 room farm house on an 80 acre property. She is married to Clarence Cleary, and her children are Marianna and Malcom Cleary.

The foundation of heroism is education. Beverly attended Fernwood Grammer Grade School. Years after, Beverly went to U.S. Grant High School and graduated. She went to three colleges, Chaffery Junior College in Ontario, University of California, and University of Washington.

Hard work contributes to heroism. Beverly Cleary wrote books for a living. Some of her books are Henry Huggins, Ellen Tebbits, Henry and Beezus, Otis Spofford, and Henry and Ribsy. In her life, time Beverly has sold over 30 million books worldwide!

Beverly Cleary is important and changed the world. She changed the world by giving us books to read about common people with humorous language.
