My hero is Bethany Hamilton because she was bitten by a 14 foot tiger shark on October 31, 2003. Her brother said that she was always a surfer. She started surfing when she was only 3 years old. One day while she was surfing, she put her hand in the ocean by mistake and she was bitten. She said that sometimes bad things happen in the water. She went to the hospital. Her mom and dad wanted her to survive the bite from the 14 foot tiger shark. God did not want her to die, so she survived. She had 5 surgeries and she was in the hospital for 2 years. She thought she might die. She was thirteen years old when this happened.

She encouraged me by showing me the 6 pillars of characters: caring, respect, responsibility, trustworthiness, citizenship, and fairness. Bethany showed all the people that if you have handicaps, don’t let them stop you from completing your dreams.
