My hero is David Livingstone. He spent half his life exploring southern and central Africa. David Livingstone was born March 19, 1813, to Neil and Angus Livingstone. David Livingstone had one older brother. At the age of 10, David was sent to a cotton factory to earn money. In 1836, he entered Anderson’s College in Glasgow. He loved theology and medicine. Four years later he received a medical degree from Anderson’s College.
In 1838, he went to London, passed an exam, and was sent to Essex. After that he went back to London and walked the hospitals. In 1840 he was ordained a missionary. In December 1840, he left for Cape Good Hope. He landed at Cape Elizabeth in May 1841. He traveled 700 miles before the end of the year. In 1842, he started his second journey to the interior of Africa and stayed there. He preached and helped the sick. In 1843, he went to Mabotsa and a lion crushed his shoulder bone and he was wounded for life. He also did many more journeys and died May 1873.
David Livingstone is my hero because he was a missionary and because he traveled in Africa where my ancestors came from. He helped the sick and discovered many rivers and lakes.
