Dorothy Hector

by Lauren from Fort Morgan

Dorothy Hector was a caring woman that was in my ife for 7 wonderful years. She past away in Nov. 17 2002 on her husband’s birthday in the Sterling Clinic. She is a hero to me because of all of the things she has done in her life. Here are some reasons she’s my hero.

Dorothy Hector is a hero to me because she was the bravest person I ever met. She lived though the Dust Bowl and the Great Depression, she worked in a medical depot during World War 2, she dealt with an abusive marriage and raised Rick her son on her own during the 50’s which was very courageous thing to do. Then after a few years she remarried to Robert Hector.

After they were happily married they adopted a son and his name is Doug Hector. He had a hard life until the Hectors adopted him. Then two years later they adopted another son, Duane Hector, and then the Hector family started to move. They moved from Northglenn, Colorado to Arlington, Virginia to Sterling, Colorado.

Then Dorothy Hector had to help battle cancer with her husband and ended tragically with his death in 1978. After his death, Dorothy spent the rest of her time helping community and church projects.

Another way of her being my hero is that she was kind and helped anyone whenever she could. She was also gentle because she would always listen to your problems, and try to help you solve them. Grandma Dorothy to me was many things. She was an angel, community supporter, a very faithful person and was in my family for many years. She was a fantastic hero to me and others because she was brave, kind, and she was gentle no matter what. May she rest in peace.
