Terry Fox

by Jillian from Winnipeg

My hero is Terry Fox. He is my hero because of his courage throughout his battle with cancer and for his strength to never give up. He was born on July 28th 1958 in Winnipeg Manitoba.

Even as a little child, Terry did things with a :No quitting attitude." He would stack blocks for hours and hours. If the blocks fell down, Terry owuld continue to stack them until he had an impeccible tower.

As Terry grew older he became very competitive. He loved to play sports or even just race someone around the track. During his sports he begain to feel horrible pains in his leg. After a period of time, his parents begain to worry. On March 9th when Terry was just nineteen yaers old, the docters discovered a malignant tumour in his right leg. He would get his leg amputated.

Terry did some thinking overa few years, Terry did some thinking, and he didn't want other people to get what he got, so decided he would run across Canada to raise money for cancer research. On this run Terry was not easy to get along with, for his best friend Doug anyway. "He would argue, he would fight, but my goodness he would run" quoted Doug. Terry begain to pick up a cough and got some dizzy spells. On September 1st,1980,Terry Fox ended the marathon of hope, and decided to go to the hospital.

Docters discovered that Terry had cancer yet again, but this time it had gone into his lungs. Unfortunatly, this time it took his life. Terry's legacy still lives on . All over the wourld, in September, we have Terry Fox runs to help live up his dream.
