My Grandparents

by Alex from Shanty Bay

Many Children are in homes where their parents can’t afford enough food or clothes for their kids. These kids are often the ones who wish they could participate in activities like guitar and karate. I was once in a situation like that, but there were two special people who offered to take me in. My grandparents are heroes because they were the ones who offered to take me into their home for proper care.

When I was young, my parents were still separated and my home at my mom's wasn’t stable enough to live in. I was always getting sick and I needed proper care. That’s when my grandparents decided to take me into their home. Even today they tell me that my mom, or dad, didn’t have enough money or time to care for me, and that my school was not a good school for me. After I was taken in, my grandma began to home school me and I finally had proper care.

My grandparents are not only heroes to me, but they have also helped other people in times of need. They have been supporting a girl named Rinate, who is 18 years old, and lives in Africa. My grandma also took my aunt and went to Guatemala on a mission trip to help build homes for the needy. They also give a donation to our church every Sunday. My grandparents help many in their time of need.

Many people travel all over the world and are considered heroic. Many people also have lots of high paying jobs and have all brand names and new objects that are unneeded. Even with all that, it still doesn’t make a hero.

Like I said before, many people have cool and exciting pasts but it still doesn’t make a hero. My grandparents have had a basic life in their past. My grandpa’s jobs have been from a heavy equipment operator, to an inspector. While my grandma has been a nurse and a personal home care person. They have both traveled a bit, but mostly just to Jamaica, Florida, and B.C. They have both had a very simple life.

My heroes might not be famous, or rich, but that’s not what makes a hero. A hero is someone who sacrifices themselves to help others for no personal gain. That is why I chose my grandparents as my number one heroes.
