Harriet Tubman

Many people think that a hero has to be some one you know or someone who is still living. I think that heroes can be honored dead or alive in many different ways. My hero is someone who was a slave freer. She has freed over 300 slaves. She is also a very brave person. She has set her life to one goal, and that is that African Americans should be treated equally, just the same as everyone else.

Harriet Tubman was born 1820 in Dorchester County, Maryland. Sadly she died on March 10, 1913 in Auburn, New York. Harriet Tubman has made some amazing differences in our world. She has freed and changed lives for over 300 hundred people and helped create the underground railroad (which really was a path above ground). She was also a spy during the Civil War in South Carolina as well as a nurse. Harriet was also posted for a $40,000 dollar reward from the South for her capture. She has even had her picture on a postage stamp in 1995 as a reward for being one of our countries’ famous heroes.

Harriett Tubman was a great leader in our country and she is still a great example to others to show that anyone in the world can be a leader like she was. As you can tell, Harriet Tubman has made some amazing differences in our world and some very good decisions to help others too.
