Perseverance, humility, courage, strength, and the ability to see the good in horrendous situations. This is what a hero is to me. This is also the perfect description of the people of Haiti. The Haitians are an inspiration to people worldwide.

My heroes are not just one, but many - about seven million. Any individual living in Haiti that has endured through the tragedies that they have suffered through is a hero to me. These heroes are from the past, present, and maybe even future.

Since this country's beginning, they have been plagued with corrupt leaders, extreme poverty, and natural disaster after natural disaster. Just as the Haitians begin to pull themselves out of the latest catastrophe, they are knocked back down again. They have struggled to form a stable government and economy. But, they show extreme faith and always continue to persevere through the good times and bad.

I have learned that although we face many hardships in our lives, there is always hope. We must all try to be like the Haitians, and look for the silver lining in situations that are not in our favor. We must adopt positive attitudes to see us through tough times.

Even though the people of Haiti have suffered through much misfortune, they have always remained upbeat and haven't given up hope. This is an inspiration to me and anyone else who has hit a rough spot in their life. These amazing people have shown us the true meaning of the words, "Never give up".
