Angelina Jolie

One of my heroes is definitely Angelina, with her dedication to get people’s attention to world problems, especially those that affect children. In spite of being named the sexiest woman alive, being one of the most successful (Academy aword winning) actresses of our time she is commited and dedicated to her role as the UN Goodwill Ambassador.

She was born on June 4th 1975 in Los Angeles, California. Her parents were divorced and Angelina still suffers from her stressful relationship with her father. After her marriage to writer / actor Billy Bob Thornthorn, she completely dedicated herself to her adoptive son Maddox. Maddox comes from Cambodia, a country to which Angelina is closely bond. Her work with children began here. Since that time she extended her help to other countries most affected with poverty; especially with abandoned street children. As a UN ambassador she works for UNICEF, was appointed Goodwill Ambassador for the UN High Commissioner for Refugees in Geneva after her visits to Sierra Leone, Tanzania and Pakistan in 2001and is also goodwill ambassador for the UNHCR.

To me Angelina means a successful career, being admired and beautiful, but understanding that it all means nothing unless your life is dedicated to those who don’t have the fortune of being able to choose the course of their lives. From her I learned that you must take all the opportunities life offers you and become the best person you can be. Angelina Jolie can be an example to all of us. She is a hero.
