Uncle Kent

by Leah from Pennsylvania

My uncle Kent will always be a hero to me. Kent was always an amazing person to be around. He always found a way for everyone in my family to laugh even when we didn’t feel like it. Throughout my uncle’s life he always loved music. He would always have his guitar close to him. He was in many bands and wrote lots of music throughout his life. One of the things that makes him my hero is because he didn’t just write a bunch of plain old music, his songs were really inspiring and mostly dedicated to God. My favorite song written by him is called “I need your love.”

About 6 years ago my uncle went through a really low time in his life and committed suicide. The news came so unexpectedly to my family. Kent was only 32 and still had so much ahead of him. I think about him almost everyday and miss him a lot. Sometimes I wonder why God decided it was time for him to go, but then I think that God knew what was best for him. My mom and grandmother both have a painting of God welcoming someone into heaven. My grandmother thinks that the man being welcomed looks like my uncle Kent. That painting has always been a reminder that Kent is in heaven with God.

My uncle Kent was always a kind and loving person. One of the reasons he is so special to me is because, during his life he helped special ed kids. Every year we have a festival called Kent’s Fest in honor of his amazing life. It’s a talent show for kids that have disabilities. It’s so cool to see these kids put on plays, sing songs, and play instruments. Just like my uncle Kent they all love music. My uncle Kent has always been an inspiration to me through his love of music and his love for God.
