Mihai Eminescu lived two centuries ago, between 1849-1889, but he can be considered a genius even today. He is one of the best Romanian poets. His poems talk about history, philosophy, nature, love, ordinary people like you and me.
The longest poem written by Eminescu and which I know and I like very much is “Luceafarul” (The Morning Star). It is 94 stanzas long.
Eminescu’s poems prove that he was a genius of poetic expression. He studied abroad and read literature, philosophy, history, biology. Mihai Eminescu wrote also newspaper articles in the press of his time. These articles show him as a person who is very fond of his Romanian origin. He also fought for the national unity.
Mihai Eminescu was appreciated during his life as well, and he had many friends who helped him like: Ioan Slavici, Ion Creanga and Titu Maiorescu.
He was a good and warm person. His poetry and work show these qualities. But he had also a real talent and many ideas are valid and valuable even today.
