Unknown KFC Manager

by Andrew from Toronto

My hero is the KFC manager at the KFC in the food court at the Georgian Mall, Barrie, Ontario. He helped out my mother, brother and I when we were in need of a meal. He supplied our order after hours, gave us a discount and free drinks. I have yet to directly witness an act of passion and kindness such as his, the experience was very memorable.

It was a Sunday afternoon, my mother, brother and I were on our two hour drive back from our family cottage to our house in Toronto. We needed to stop at the Georgian Mall to do some much needed shopping. Shopping is not my favourite activity, especially in malls. It had been hours since we had eaten and we started to get hungry. However the mall was closing soon so we kept on shopping. When we had finally finished we were hungry and went directly to the food court. Our hopes went down as we weaved through masses coming out of the food court.

When we got to the food court it was almost empty. We went to KFC and I tried to order. There was a large male who seems to be putting away equipment from the counters. "Sorry, we are closed" he says. A women on the other side of the concession stand looks up and appears to ignore us. Suddenly a man who seems to be the manager emerges from the back. He eagerly walks up and faces us, "Lets do this" says the man. He proceeds to take our order and the other two employees start getting our food. We got two orders of popcorn chicken, but the man only charged us the price of one. He also gave us soft drinks free of charge. I walked out of that mall feeling enlightened instead of worn out.

I was unaware that acts of kindness such as this even happened. I have heard many stories where people commit great gestures of kindness, but it is very different when you experience it first hand. He helped out my family, gave us a special deal and showed compassion for others. Unfortunately I did not get the name of the man and I have no way of identifying him, but I know I will never forget him and his actions that day.
