Rosa Parks

by Faith

Young Rosa Parks:  Do you think being grounded is bad? Well Rosa Parks was in way more trouble for not giving up her seat on a bus. Rosa Parks has done lots of amazing things in her life. She stood up for her rights unlike any other women. Because of her we live a good and happy life that does not involve separation of the black and white. Even though most of Rosa's accomplishments were when she was older her childhood also gave her lots of value.

Childhood:  Rosa Parks was born on February 4th 1913 in Tuskegee, Alabama. She had one brother named Sylvester. Rosa's mother was a teacher at several church run schools, Leona. Her father was a carpenter, James Rosa suffered from tonsillitis at only one. Tonsillitis is a infection that is in your tonsils and gives you a high fever and a bad sore throat. Their doctor recommended tonsillectomy to remove the infection, but the family was too poor that they could not afford the operation.  When Leona was expecting her second child they had to move to James' parents house. Leona did not get along very well with James' parents that after one year living there Leona packed up Rosa and all of her meager possessions, then went to her parents farm. Rosa's father eventually came to live with them and Rosa didn't see her father until she was two and a half. When Rosa was two she was baptized. Rosa went to Montgomery Industrial School for girls that taught practical skills, academics, and philosophy. Rosa went through a lot as a child but not as much as she did in most of her accomplishments.

Obstacles and Major Accomplishments: One of Rosa Park's obstacles is that she was being arrested several times. The first time as you all know was on the bus. The bus driver was a very rude one. His name was Blake. He did not ask Miss Parks kindly to get off the seat he said " Look woman I told you I wanted that seat! Are you going to get up!" Said Blake " No I am not" replied Rosa. Blake threatens to call the police. " If you don't get up I will call the police!" said Blake, Rosa replied with a calm voice saying " You may do that." Right then Blake called the police and Rosa was put in jail for that. Another one of Rosa Park's obstacles is the right to vote. If the colored people wanted to vote they had to pay a fine that they could not always afford, so they did not vote. Also only 5.3% of the colored people were allowed to vote. That is not a lot that is about five people out of one hundred. It took Mrs Parks three times to try to vote but on the fourth try they let her vote. The accomplishments to go with her obstacles. For one  Rosa Parks accomplished that being a different color then everybody else is not bad at all. That came from her obstacles of being on the bus. Another accomplishment is just because you are a colored person that does not mean that you can't vote at all without paying a fine. That came from her being able to vote. Rosa had a lot of obstacles to go through, but also had traits.

Hero Traits: Trait number one is that she was very courageous. She would stand up for herself on the bus and more places by saying " I would see the bus pass every day, the bus was among the first ways I realized there was a black and white world" says Rosa. Trait number two is that she was very intrepid. She was never afraid to get arrested for not giving up her seat on the bus. One more trait is that she was loyal, Rosa was faithful to the colored people and knew they were no different then the white people. Even though Rosa was all of that she can have a connection with me and you too.

Personal Connections: I choose Rosa Parks as my hero because she stood up for her rights and made the world a better place now than it was. Now Rosa and I don't care if someone's skin color is darker then someone else and neither did Rosa care. Rosa helped the world and I do too by recycling but she did a big change and there is now no more separation of the black and the white. Even though Rosa had to go through a lot of problems to achieve what she wanted, she made it.
