Rigoberta Menchu

To me a hero is a person who tries very hard to become someone in life and go on with his or her life. To me a hero is not just a person who has money and is famous and can control everything just by being famous and rich. To me a hero is someone who fights for her or his rights and for the rights of other poor people and people who cannot defend themselves.

I am going to talk about Rigoberta Menchu because I think she is a person who fought to be someone in life even though she didn't had money but she wanted to study. Rigoberta Mencu was born January 9, 1959, in Chimel, a village in the Quiche province in the northwest highlands of Guatemala.

Rigoberta Menchu was born in Guatemala. She was an ordinary Indian but she wanted to study and be a better person and she wanted to fight for her rights. She lived in the Finca, life in the Finca was very hard. She worked too many years to study. Life was very hard to her. She won two peace Nobel prizes. Her difficult childhood is an example of how hundreds and thousands of Indian children grow up in Guatemala. Rigoberta Menchu was involved in the Catholic church and she was just a teenager when, in 1979, Rigoberta, too, joined the CUC. "That year her brother was arrested, tortured and killed by the army. The following year, her father was killed when security forces in the capital stormed the Spanish Embassy where he and some other peasants were staying. Shortly afterwards, her mother also died after having been arrested, tortured and raped." She was a very strong person, she lived through some very hard moments.
