Sherlock Holmes has always been one of my favorite literary characters. He was very intelligent and had a dry, witty sense of humor. He played the violin which is one of my favorite musical instruments. Holmes was very interested in forensic science, something I love to read about and watch on TV. Holmes was a good friend to Dr. Watson and often saved his life. Holmes helped those that could not help themselves - and saved many innocent people from being arrested.
I really like that Holmes always got his villain. He never gave up. I think that a true Hero never gives up. He solved mysteries that often the police could not solve. He often saved people from death. I like the way that he could figure out "who done it" from some little thing that someone said, or from the smallest of clues.
I think Sherlock Holmes is a literary hero because as a character he is timeless. Generations to come will enjoy reading the adventures that he had. The stories are full of suspense, red-herrings, and great villains like Professor Moriarty. I also like that we can get a sense of British history and culture from the stories.
