Steven Pinker

by Julia from Mission Viejo

I first became aware of my career hero just a few weeks ago. I was doing research on psychologists because this is the career I am interested in and I came across Steven Pinker. Steven Pinker stood out from all the other psychologists because of top selling books and just his attitude towards his career. I think that he is very inspiring and interesting because of all of that. He helps others with their problems and I think he is considered a scientist because he observes people's behavior over a period of time for several weeks.

Psychology is the study of the human mind. Psychologists study their patient's behavior of their diagnosis over several weeks. In this career, you have to work and study very hard on the human brain and you have to be friendly so you can make friends with your patients. It takes 4-5 years to earn your bachelor's degree and from 4-7 years to earn your doctorate degree. Their salaries can range anywhere from $48,000-$110,000. Similar careers are psychiatrists or a therapist.

Steven Pinker grew up in Montreal, Canada and came from a Jewish family. He became interested in psychology in his early ages. He graduated from Dawson College in 1971 and went to other colleges to get his doctorate degree. He became a professor at Harvard. Steven has written several award winning books that talk about his experience in psychology.

Steven Pinker helps others because he helps his patients get over their issues. He observes them over a long period of time and has a psychiatrist prescribe them a specific medicine that is supposed to help them get better by time. He contributes to the society because he helps others to get past their personal problems. He became a professor at Harvard and he published 5 books that became famous. Steven Pinker helps the world because he helps people everywhere get past their problems and get better.

In high school I am going to take science classes for three years maybe four to learn more about the human body and related topics. I will also volunteer at hospitals and possibly psychology offices nearby. I will also do much research to find out what it takes to become a psychologist and a good one and get into college. Some of the colleges that I am looking into are University of Santa Barbara, University of San Diego, University of Irvine, and USC. In college I will major in psychology to learn about the human brain and everything I need to pursue in this career. When I graduate I will become a psychologist somewhere in Southern California and do it for a while and when I retire I will write a book about the ups and downs of this career and just everything about the job and my experience of it all. Steven Pinker is very inspirational to me and I think he has inspired me even more to pursue in psychology.
