Sergey Poligalin

Sergei Poligalin was a famous Russian engineer. He was a successful person and a very important person in the history of Siberia.

The townspeople of Novosibirsk honour S. Poligalin because he designed the Opera and Ballet Theatre of Novosibirsk. It is the biggest and the most beautiful theatre in Russia. The theatre became the symbol of Novosibirsk. He also designed the central hotel of Novosibirsk.

Sergei Poligalin was born in 1699 in the village. His father was a salesman, his mother was a housewife. He finished school with excellence and then went to Tomsk technical university. After graduating from the university in 1924 Sergey worked in Novonikolaevsk which later became Novosibirsk. He was 25 years old at that time. He made a lot of improvements for Novosibirsk.

In 1926 he designed and built a printing plant. In 1927 Poligalin also built the Central hotel and a hospital No. 1. In 1930 he was appointed to be the head of the building department. In 1931 he started to build Opera and Ballet theatre. Unfortunately he didn't see the first performance in the theatre which took place on 9 May 1945. This was a very important date in the history of our country - The Day of Victory in the Second World War. Poligalin died in 1937.

People of Novosibirsk remember Sergey Poligalin because Opera and Ballet theatre are very beautiful and it is the symbol of Novosibirsk. In future I'd also like to be useful for my city.
