Sonia Sotomayor

by Johelyn from Blackstone Academy Prep

A hero isn't a person that necessarily saves someone's life. A hero is a person that helps change the world, is helpful, and achieved many challenges. Sotomayor fits in what a hero really is. She's the first Hispanic judge, 111th justice judge, and the third female judge. Sonia Sotomayor is a hero to many people. She has gone through various obstacles in life but yet stands tall. As a judge she has solved many people's problems. If she wasn't a judge many Hispanic girls or even Hispanic boys wouldn't be inspired as they are now.

At age 8, Sotomayor was detected with diabetes (type 1). This was a really hard year for her and again at age 8 her father died and was left alone with her mother and little brother. Such hard things have happened to her and she's missing out on having a father.

In 1976 Sotomayor had graduated from college from Yale school and from Colombia being a lawyer. She was also an undergraduate in Princeton University. Then she decided to kick it up to a higher level. This was start to helping many people.

Since August 2009 she has been a Supreme Court justice. She is now the 111th, its 1st Hispanic justice, and its 3rd female justice. As a judge she has helped many people. She solves many kinds of cases. She has also got far.

In conclusion Sotomayor hasn't only helped many people but she has also overcome many challenges. This is why Sotomayor is a hero to many people. She is an inspiration to many people and kids will one day be a hero like she is. "But experience has taught me that you cannot value dreams according to the odds of their coming true. Their real value is in stirring within us the will to aspire. That will, wherever it finally leads, does at least move you forward. And after a time you may recognize. That the proper measure of success is not how much you've closed the distance to some far-off goal but the quality of what you've done today." • Sonia Sotomayor
